3D Live Scanner [Android app]

I tried out the 3D Live Scanner app by Lubos Vonasek Programmierung, and at the time of posting this – it was still in early access, but I found it to be incredibly functional while scanning the front room I use as a studio.

It’s currently free, and technically unreleased: so grab it while you can.

I’ve only explored the one feature where you can scan a room, but hot dang – when I get a day off, you know I’ll be going out to Sheffield city centre, and trying to 3D scan some landmarks.

US Instant Meshes:

If you’re looking for a quick guide to Instant Meshes, I recommend the Peter France tutorial on it: though this is focused around scanning individual objects, not entire rooms – which is why I left it out of this video.

If that name rings a bell, it bloody well should – he was once part of Corridor Crew….

Music: Unicorn Heads – Dreaming in 432Hz https://youtu.be/bsFkZR7FVM8
This track is CC0 but I still wanted to credit it, as I always do. As an avid lucid dreamer who listens to binaural tones, this is the closest I could get without hypnotising my audience.

I found some Sheffield buildings on 3D Warehouse

I found some accurate representations of 3D buildings on 3D Warehouse of Sheffield, and tried to export from Sketchup to fbx, with a view to import the textured assets into Unreal for the Sheffield game I’m working on.

I started the process in Linux, but had to actually dual boot into Windows to finish the video, with some help of some text to speech AI’s from https://play.ht

Attempt to downsize my cluttered UE4 project

My Sheffield FPS project totals 15GB – and a lot of that is wasteful Marketplace content that I don’t really need, this is a short experiment with using text-to-speech to document it.

Given that the working title for my project is ‘The Burner Effect’ – this felt apt

Clean recorded audio with Audacity

When you’ve finished recording: –

Ctrl A to select all, Effect – Normalize (this’ll adjust the waveform so that it’s a consistent volume)
– Select ONLY the beginning, before you begin speaking: Effect – Noise Reduction – Get Noise Profile – OK

Ctrl A to select all again Effect – Noise Reduction – OK. Normalize it again until your audio sounds clear. Repeat if necessary.

I recreated a Commander Keen level in Blender

Commander Keen is a series of six side-scrolling platform games, and was primarily developed by id software in 1990.

The premise of the story is that you play as Commander Keen, the secret identity of 8-year old genius, Billy Blaze – and you have to defend the galaxy from alien attacks.

The first instalment is from Invasion of the Vorticons, and this is an attempt to model the layout of the first level in 3D, even to the point of decoding the signage from the Standard Galactic Alphabet, which Sheepit didn’t recognise – so the translations show on the last segment (a happy accident!)

I’ve not modelled any collectibles like the old-school Pepsi can, pizza slice, raygun, lollipop, book or the player and enemies, because I will set these up as actors within Unreal.

Shooter Simplified AI (Unreal plugin)

Fixed version of yesterdays upload that had the audio issues: my voice is at the normal pitch and speed for this one.

Recapping some of the instructions from the playlist on this tool creators Youtube channel, since the videos are silent.
Also featured is a first-person mode called Advanced Shooter Game, which I may do another video on in the future.

If you’re interested in hearing the broken audio version, I’ve kept it up here because it sounds so cursed, it’s interesting:
